Multiplication is a practical way of adding. We can find the result of the sum of 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 by multiplying 6 by 4. The number we multiply is called a multiplier while the number to be multiplied is called a multiplicand. The result that we find as a result of the multiplication is called a product.
A second-grade student,
∗ Understands that multiplication means repeated addition.
∗ Learns that the symbol for multiplication is (x).
∗ Learns the expressions: multiplicand, multiplier, and product.
∗ Multiplies the numbers up to 10 by 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
∗ Notices that changing the place of the factors in the multiplication operation will not change the product.
∗ Understands the effect of 1 and 0 in multiplication.
∗ Solves problems that require multiplication with natural numbers.
