English Worksheets – Vocabulary, Compound Words #10

Compound words make up a significant portion of English words used in everyday conversation. They consist of two different words with completely different meanings. For example, the word cupcake consists of cup + cake.

Usually, these words become compound nouns. However, this is not always the case. These words can also be adjectives; fire-resistant, high-speed, etc.

When it comes to writing compound words, there are different ways to do it; We can write them as separate words, as a single word, or with a hyphen between two words.

Examples:

Foot + Ball ⇒ Football

Jelly + FishJellyfish

Head + Ache Headache

Traffic + Jam Traffic Jam

Grown + Up Grown-Up
