One of the subjects that started to be taught in the 2nd-grade mathematics is the subject of money. Definitions of money, definitions of paper and coins, and transitions between them are explained in this subject. Explaining paper and coins and providing information about spending money is an important step for 2nd-year students. In this subject, it is aimed to teach the definitions and use of money and its spending. Both addition and subtraction operations are learned in the mathematics lesson, and they are practiced on money in the 2nd grade. It is a point for students to learn that their money consists of numbers but is divided into two types as coins and paper.
Students should know skip-counting by 5s and 10s before they start counting money. It will be wise to introduce two kinds of coins at the first stage. Using real coins will be a great help for kids to have better comprehension. After they get enough practice you can introduce other coins and use mixed groups to continue practicing. Papers are easier to learn for kids as they are not confusing like coins.
