G1- Phonics

Phonics, Reading and Writing CVC Words

Children can learn how to read and write three-letter words easily with the help of CVC words, which come first in the order of teaching phonics. CVC means a single syllable word having the pattern of consonant, vowel, consonant. The vowel sound in CVC words is always short because it is a closed syllable.

Examples: cat, ten, kid, dog, hug

CVC words are easy to read for children as they simply need to blend the sounds of individual letters together. We can say that it is the transition from learning the sounds of letters to sounding out simple words.

Once your child learns several letters that you can blend and compose a CVC word, you can begin introducing the CVC words. Our worksheets are here to help you teach and practice the CVC words.
