Some linking words, called contrast linking words, are used to show how two ideas are different or opposite. In this essay, we will learn about these words, how to use them, and why they are important in writing.

The most common linking word for contrast is but. We use but to show that one idea is different from another. For example: I wanted to go outside, but it was raining. This sentence shows that the rain stopped the person from going outside.

Another useful linking word is however. It is often used at the beginning of a new sentence to show a difference. For example: I studied hard for the test. However, I did not get a high score. This shows that the result was different from what was expected.

We can also use although or even though to show contrast. For example: Although it was cold, we still went to the park. This means they went to the park despite the cold weather.

Why are contrast linking words important in essay writing? They help make our ideas clearer and more interesting. For example, if you are writing about two sides of an argument, you can use words like on the other hand or while to compare them. This helps the reader understand your points better.
