Recognizing Letter Sounds in Words

This worksheet will help you understand if your child can recognize the letter sounds in words

Children may be confused while trying to pronounce words because the names of the letters don’t necessarily correspond to their pronunciation.

The phonic approach pushes us to teach them pure sounds like ah, b, and k and to immediately connect letters to sounds. Children learn how to blend the sounds represented by the letters or letter groupings to read words more easily.

Try the following activities to make it easier for your child:

  • Ask your child to write the letter or letter group he/she hears while you make letter sounds.
  • Encourage your kids to link the letters in their names to the names’ sounds.
  • Play word games that link sounds to syllables and words.
  • Make use of printable letter and sound worksheets.
