Kindness Jar – Tips to Teach Kindness

We prepared a kindness jar for children to fill and observe what a great job they did!

Here are some tips to teach kindness to your children:

Children learn by observing their parents and caregivers, so it’s important to model kindness in your behavior and interactions with others. Demonstrating kindness towards yourself is also crucial, as it teaches children the significance of self-compassion.

Creating a kind home environment is key to fostering a culture of kindness within the family. Encourage a sense of abundance where children feel there is enough love, praise, and attention to go around.

Teach empathy to children by helping them understand and experience empathy through reflecting on their own feelings and considering the feelings of others. Encourage them to think about the positive feelings that come with kindness and generosity.

Notice and acknowledge acts of kindness, no matter how big or small, to emphasize the value of being kind. Recognize when someone is kind to you and talk about the impact of their kindness.

Reading books about kindness and compassion with children can help them grasp the concept and its significance. Engaging in discussions about kindness, empathy, and the consequences of our actions on others can further reinforce these values.
