Concepts of Opposites Worksheet – Tall or Short

Concepts are thoughts that contain certain characteristics of entities and events and are perceived in the same way by everyone. The entities or events created by the concepts have similar characteristics. For example, color, plant, and animal are concepts.

The purpose of teaching concepts to children is to enable them to recognize the environment they live in more easily. While teaching concepts to children, an easy to complex order should be followed and the concepts taught should be perceived in the same sense by everyone. In addition, the child should be able to generalize the concepts he has learned to different situations and environments.

Gaining certain basic concepts before starting formal education will give the child the opportunity to communicate, use symbols and participate effectively in learning activities during basic education. If children have formed basic concepts before coming to school, they can benefit from educational activities within their own abilities; they establish solid foundations for further learning.

Classification of concepts
Color concepts: Red, blue, yellow, green, etc.
Shape concepts: Circle, square, star, triangle etc.
Movement concepts: walking, running, lifting, etc.
Name concepts: Human names, animals, plants, etc.
Opposite concepts: Hot-cold, open-closed, etc.

Opposites are things that directly contrast each other. For instance, “big” is the opposite of “small”. Children can better describe and compare two different things once they learn the concept of opposites.

Our worksheets are one of the most educational preschool activities for your child and especially contribute to the development of your child’s reasoning and comprehension skills. They will greatly help increase awareness of the child’s environment.
